Florida Softball Gears up for 2010

The University of Florida softball team gears up for its 2010 campaign with four fall game dates. The Gators, which finished second in the nation last season, will host three regional teams in October and November.
UF will begin the fall season with a single game against Santa Fe College on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. The Gators then face Seminole State College of Florida in a doubleheader on Friday, Oct. 23. Action is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
Florida will face Santa Fe again on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. and finish the fall season with a 6 p.m. game against Chipola College on Friday, Nov. 13.
All games will be played at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium, where last year, fans broke the single-game attendance record twice and averaged the highest attendance in program history.

Stacey Nelson Gets First National Win

University of Florida recent senior Stacey Nelson (Los Alamitos, Calif.) earned her first win as a member of the U.S. National team in a 7-0, five-inning victory over Australia in round-robin play at the Canada Cup on Tuesday night. The U.S. improved their record to 5-0 in the tournament.

Stacey did not however pitch the entire five innings against Australia. She started out edgy with a couple hits in the first and came back in the 2nd inning with a 1 – 2 – 3 inning. She was then relieved for the 2nd half of the game and still maintained the shut out stats.
Stacey Nelson maintained an amazing 0.61 ERA in her senior year at UF and will be dearly missed heading into next season.
Stacey Nelson Named to USA National Team

University of Florida recent senior Stacey Nelson (Los Alamitos, Calif.) earned a spot on two USA Softball Women’s National teams for the 2009 summer, the Amateur Softball Association of American (ASA) announced on Monday.
Nelson, who finished her career at Florida with 136 wins, will compete on the National team in July. The team will travel to Surrey, British Columbia, for the Canada Cup on July 3-12 and then to Oklahoma City, Okla., for the KFC World Cup presented by Six Flags on July 13-20.
The pitcher was also named to the 2009 USA Softball Japan Cup team that will compete at the Japan Cup in Sendai, Japan from July 31 to Aug. 2

Softball Named Easton Team of the Year While Five Players Garner All-American Honors

No. 1/1 University of Florida was named Team of the Year by Easton Sports, Inc. Five Gators also earned Easton first-team All-American honors, the most from a single school.
Sophomores Stephanie Brombacher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.), Kelsey Bruder (Corona, Calif.) and Aja Paculba (Wildomar, Calif.) along with junior Francesca Enea (Woodland Hills, Calif.) and senior Stacey Nelson (Los Alamitos, Calif.) were all part of the first-team roster.
The 2009 Gators set 39 school records and made the program’s first-ever appearance in the Women’s College World Series Championship Series. Their .323 batting average was tops in Florida record books and seventh in Southeastern Conference history. Their .543 slugging percentage and .423 on-base percentage ranked third all-time in the SEC while their 86 home runs broke the conference record. The 63-5 record is the second-best in Florida history, only to the 2008’s NCAA-record breaking 70-5 season.
