SEC Ref-Gate

Way to create a mountain out of a mole hill. The SEC has suspended the officiating crew that worked the Arkansas Razorbacks-Florida Gators game. This is undoubtedly going to fuel the “the league is in the tank for Florida” crap being spewed all over the airwaves. But wait a minute you say? The league came down on the refs. Doesn’t that show the league is NOT trying to put the Gators above the other teams? No it doesn’t. When you apologize for something, you admit there is something to apologize for. You admit guilt. The SEC should’ve kept their mouths shut. After all, this call had NOTHING to do with who won the game. NOTHING! It was a NINE YARD PENALTY! Do you think nine yards made that much difference? Really? Did you see how far Jeff Demps was in front of everybody when he scored? Unless he got a cramp suddenly, I don’t think nine more yards would’ve been a problem.
Arkansas lost the game because their field goal kicker choked. Their kicker choked and Florida’s didn’t. You had a tie game where both teams had enough time to mount a final scoring drive. Arkansas did not capitalize. Florida did. Ballgame! It doesn’t get much simpler than that. But because everybody in the world is now sick of watching the Gators hoist up crystal footballs and basketballs over their heads every year, there has to be a conspiracy. And the SEC has just given these idiots a bone to chew on. SEE! SEE! They admitted it! Dumb move Mike. What happens now when UF gets to the BCS championship game? You do realize there is a MONTH between the SEC Championship Game and the BCS Championship Game, right? Do you think “Ref-Gate” will come up once or twice? Count on it. I could mayve see it if there was a controversy over whether or not Sturgis’ field goal was good or not. Or if a penalty put him in position to kick it and the penalty was iffy, but this was with 9 MINUTES left. And it gave them 9 YARDS!
Last year Florida lost to Ole Miss by one point. ONE POINT cost us a perfect season. THAT one point was a blocked extra point. On that play Ole Miss had a player use another player as a springboard to block the kick which is a clear violation. It was not called. Ole Miss wins. Did the SEC apologize to us? No. Did we spend a lot of time after the game crying about it? No. That’s because we STILL had a chance to win the game after that. We had a doable 4th down and 1. We got stuffed. End of story.

Mr. Folsom,
Did you watch the Arkansas Florida game or women’s soccer? Do you really like to watch a competitive football game or just Florida winning regardless of how it’s done?
Do you not care that another team was cheated as long as the Gators won.
And now you’re just worried that Florida will not get preferential in the upcoming games or BCS bowl games.
There were so many blown calls in this game that the referees should feel lucky to even have a job. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zO78BDleQjA
That nine yard penalty you point out should have been a 15 yard personal foul penalty against Florida. The play was over and he was 20 yards away trying to cut the Arkansas player. That puts Florida 2nd & 25 from the 35. Do they get a touchdown from here? Do they even get a first down from here? We’ll never know because the refs blew the call. Now what would your reaction be if the same thing happened to Florida….. Would you be irate or would you calmly say they just missed a call? Can you honestly say??????

Oh right. It’s NOT that the call was wrong. If it was wrong but went AGAINST us, that would be ok with you. How about a little cheese with you whine? Dis I once say the call was correct? No. I did not. Bur if you’re going to make the idiotic claim that THAT cost Arkansas the game, then you need to turn in your fan card. If I was Petrino, I’d be emabarrassed.

Hey I am over it, you’re the one whining. I can’t help that Florida refs are out of a job for a while. Don’t try to insult my intelligents by acting like they got reprimanded for that one call. The camera doesn’t lie. Anyway I wish Florida the best and I hope they receive as good a welcome at Mississippi State, South Carolina, and at the Georgia Dome as they gave Arkansas when they visited them. Good luck holding on to you fan card.

No, No, I retract that statement. I wouldn’t wish that kind of garbage on any team. Every team deserves a fair called game and then let the players decide the game on the field. Anyone who consistently makes bad calls should be reprimanded.
Wouldn’t you agree?

Jim, As a Gator trapped in Georgia, I do have to disagree with you. This same crew completely brain-farted in the Georgia-LSU game when they called a celebration penalty on AC Green going to his sideline.
I fully agree with you. No way can Petrino say with a straight face that “this bad call blew the game…” Bobby, your kicker blew the game-leading FG. Even if he HAD made it, we Tebow-ed our way down to kick a field goal of our own.
BUT…a bad call is a bad call. And that was as bad as I’ve seen. When you have two of the worst calls of the year called by the same crew, I gotta say the SEC did the right thing. They manned up, admitted they have a lame-ass crew on their hands, and put ‘em in time-out.

But there is no reason to do it publicly. Suspend them if you want, but letting everyone know there is a reason to suspend them just feeds this ridiculous crap that the SEC is pushing Florida. It’s stupid. The SEC has three teams still in the running for the BCS title. If Florida falls, then you still have Bama and LSU. Oh by the way, they made the same call against LSU that they made on UGA after LSU scored. UGA didn’t take advantage. So the call didn’t cost UGA that game either.

Ben. Let me type this a bit slower as you’re having trouble with your reading comprehension. Being from Arkansas I can understand why. I NEVER SAID the calls were right. But if your sorry team is using THAT as their excuse as to why they lost, completely ignoring the chip shot their kicker choked on, then it is no wonder you cannot win. It’s time for your pitiful school to start manning up and either winning, or admit that they suck insted of squealing like a bunch of stuck pigs. (pun intended) And I’m not sure I can insult your INTELLIGENCE because since you have none, I doubt it can be insulted.
If you think UF has never hada call go against them, I suggest you look up the 2003 Florida State game. This game is the reason we now have instant replay in college football. I was at that game. It is the only sporting event that I’ve ever attended or watched on tv that I have serious doubts was on the level. To suggest refs are trying to intentionally to cheat for UF is both ridiculous and insulting. Florida has accomplished heights no other school ever has or ever will in this decade. To suggest they could not have done it without some chicanery going on is pathetic. Florida has ruled this conference for two decades. If you have a problem with that then I have one suggestion for you. Stop whining and start winning.

Give it up Brian, you can’t reason with someone that would rather make personal attacks than admit anything that might cast a bad light on Florida. And for someone who who doesn’t think bad calls makes a difference in games, he sure remembers that 2003 Florida/Florida State game. My God that was 6 years ago. Let it go man! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
