What we’re hearing about cornerback Janoris Jenkins is that there is a good chance the State Attorney’s Office will drop the charges against him. This could all come down in the next week or two.
Jenkins was arrested last week on misdemeanor charges (affray and resisting arrest without violence). Jenkins was also tasered in the incident as well.
Jenkins ran from police at first but did not resist during the arrest. His claim was a self defense claim when someone tried to steal his necklace. He was the only one arrested.
The question still remains about his status… will he be suspended or not? Will charges being dropped have any bearing on the suspension? All this is to be decided by the University and Coach Urban Meyer.
UPDATE 6/30/09
As long as Janoris Jenkins stays out of trouble for the next 6 months, his charges will be dropped. Bill Cervone, the State Attorney, dropped the affray charge due to lack of evidence.
Spencer Mann, spokesman for the State Attorney’s Office, said Tuesday that Jenkins was offered a six-month deferred prosecution that will wipe his slate clean if he stays out of trouble. Jenkins, 20, from Pahokee, has to pay $50 for the cost of prosecution, and must donate $150 to a charitable organization or do 15 hours of community service in addition to staying out of trouble for six months to have the misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest without violence wiped from his record.
