Urban Meyer Reponds to Notre Dame Ruckus

If you had been keeping up the past few days, Paul Finebaum tried to put Gator Nation into a panic with his recent article calling Urban Meyer a liar and saying that he was leaving for Notre Dame after this season. Buddy Martin responded to this article as well as I and now so has Urban Meyer.
Urban Meyer’s response to those who say he’s going to Notre Dame:
I am not leaving Florida!! My family and I are honored to have the best job in the country. – Urban Meyer, July 12, 2009
From Gator Country
There Paul… or are you going to tell me where his fingers moved while he typed this? His full quote was as follows:
“I’ve been out for week. Just got back. Hope all is good. Nothing surprises me after this year w/ what people write.
Here’s a quote: ‘I am not leaving Florida!! My family and I are honored to have the best job in the country.’”

Pat Dooley happened to be there when Meyer spoke, and it came directly “from the horse’s mouth”; he noted that in his article on the Gainesville Sun website. I’m glad Urban finally said something straight out instead of being tacit about it or evading this issue altogether.
Hey, if Finebaum gets left with egg on his face as well as the other rumor-mongers, then they get what they deserve. Yeah, Meyer was backed into a corner during that radio interview and should have thought before he answered that question last December, but on the other hand so much gets taken out of context and spun to the likings of reporters and others that all the controversy started.
I attended the Daytona Beach Gator Gathering last May, and Coach indicated that he and Shelley are at home in Gainesville. With two of his children still in school, I doubt that Urban would want to uproot them – and I highly doubt that Shelley would want to do the same; she has said over and over again that she is happy that her family is finally settled in Gainesville.
When Coach Meyer first arrived at UF, he said that “when you get Urban Meyer, you get the Urban Meyer FAMILY.” His current contract stipulates a number of public appearances and also does his share of the recruiting duties within NCAA guidelines; however, he still makes time for his kids’ activities. So many kids nowadays lack a strong father figure in their lives, and that’s another quality I admire in Coach Meyer.
If Meyer’s dedication and devotion to the Gators was absent or insincerre, there’s no way our football program would be at the level it’s at now. I need not doubt that Urban’s a GATOR, and neither should any other Gator fan.
Besides, Buddy Martin and Pat Dooley know that Meyer’s a man of integrity. Paul Finebaum is nothing but a troublemaker who uses sensationalism to draw attention to himself as well as attract readers to his blog and listeners to his radio show. His tactics are despicable, and anybody in their right mind will see it that way as well.

Like somebody once tol.d me, “Never work for your job, you job must work for YOU.”
The Florida job is ideal for Meyer in that it does work for him, especially where he can balance his profesional duties with his family life. Less extensive travel, less political issues, enough of a challenge – where Meyer should be concerned, the pros outweigh the cons in favor of Florida.

Here’s another chance to make your opinions known about Finebaum’s drivel: http://www.espngo1.com/2009/07/15/mark-mcleod-with-paul-finebaum/
Mark McLeod appeared to be very Milquetoast in his responses to Finebaum in my opinion; he should have stood his ground and backed both Meyer and the Gator media in general up instead of showing Finebaum his belly.
Seems Finebaum can dish it out, but can’t stand it when it’s thrown back in his face and gets all defensive, based on how he attacked “Urban’s Way” author Buddy Martin, and pointed an accusatory finger at him claiming that he started all the controversy in the first place, which is a crock.
And yet he accuses Meyer of lying? Does Finebaum even know the meaning of the word HYPOCRITE? He better, because that’s exactly what he is – as well as a hack who, along with others of his type, continue the regression of sports journalism to the level of tabloid trash one reads in publications like the National Enquirer.
Shady hacks like Finebaum need to be taken off the air; as far as I’m concerned they have no informative NOR entertainment value whatsoever.
