Florida coach Urban Meyer said Saturday morning that freshman receiver Andre Debose, expected to help replace Percy Harvin in the lineup, is injured more severely than first thought and may need corrective surgery.
Debose has been hampered since the summer with what has been called a hamstring strain, but Meyer said Debose likely has a torn tendon in his leg.
“It’s a real injury,” Meyer said. “It’s not a common injury. We were worried it was just a tight hamstring or a hamstring pull, but it might be more.”
Meyer said he just found out about the injury on Friday night and is still fuzzy on the details. He said he will know more by Monday, especially if Debose needs surgery and how long he will be out of action. Meyer said Debose likely injured himself at the state high school track meet in the spring, and the Florida staff assumed it was a pulled hamstring.
“You don’t MRI a hamstring. You just heal them and keep going,” Meyer said.

The only good news out of this story is that we can place Andre Debose on IR and redshirt him and have him rest up this entire year and get 4 solid years. We will post the update on Monday when we get more information.

I agree with you, Mat. It’s better to redshirt Andre and have him 100% healthy rather than push him this season and aggravate his injury. We should be fine.
