Tyus, Parsons Lead Gators Past Auburn
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Facing an NCAA must win game to open the SEC Tournament, Florida took care of business. The Gators jumped out to an early 14 point on the strength of Chandler Parsons 3-point shooting and rode the momentum to a 78-69 win over Auburn. The Tigers once closed to within one with a hot start to the second half, but were never able to take the lead.

The Gator basketball team may well have punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament with its 78-69 win over Auburn at the SEC Tournament in Nashville. Florida picked up its 21st win of the season, ended a three game losing streak and took advantage of a number of other “bubble” teams having difficult days on Thursday.

Unlike their past three games, Florida can't end the Bubble Watch with a victory against Auburn today. Failing to get that victory would likely mean the Bubble Watch is over though, with NIT tickets available soon. By getting a win, the Gators will give other teams time to play themselves out of the picture the way USF and likely Seton Hall did yesterday.

Sunday in Lexington, Florida got something it had not gotten much of in SEC play. Ray Shipman came off the bench and scored nine points in just eight minutes in the first half and helped the Gators close an 18-point deficit to just 10. However, despite that productivity, Shipman spent 19 minutes on the bench during the second half of the loss to the Kentucky Wildcats.

Three members of the Gator basketball team were recognized by SEC coaches on Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore guard Erving Walker was one of eight players chosen to the All-SEC Second Team. Kenny Boynton was named to the eight-man All-Freshman Team while sophomore wing man Ray Shipman was chosen the SEC scholar-athlete of the year.

Should they win that one, many seem feel Friday's game with Mississippi State would be the clincher.
