Carlos Dunlap Suspended for Alabama Game

UPDATE: It’s now official.  Urban Meyer has suspended Carlos Dunlap for the SEC Championship game. His status for the BCS Bowl game is still up in the air for right now.

No it’s not official but it’s the only logical action that can happen.  After Dunlap Sr. spoke with Urban Meyer, he got the sense that the Florida Gators star defensive end would likely sit out for the SEC Championship game against Alabama:

“I got the sense that he won’t be able to play,” Dunlap said. “I asked him if there’s anything he can do — it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t ask — and he said he doesn’t know what he can do. We’re supposed to meet tonight.”

Despite the order of being released earlier (5 hours ago), Dunlap still sat in jail as of 2:25 PM.  According to Dunlap Sr, Carlos went out with teammates and was only 2 blocks away from his home when he fell asleep at the light… 2 BLOCKS!

“You think you’re in control and the next thing you know you’re in trouble,” said Dunlap Sr., a bailbondsman from Charleston, S.C. “I am dumbfounded right now. He’s always been so anti-drug, anti-drinking. But it’s not what you do, it’s how you respond to what you do.”

This could explain why he passed out.  He’s a lightweight when it comes to drinking and dabbling in it just a little must have made him trashed and just pass out at the stop light (we are assuming it was red which is why he stopped). Dunlap Sr says his son feels terrible and wants to make it up to his teammates in any way he can… hopefully by playing.

Don’t hold your breath Carlos… there’s no way that your’e going to be able to play this game if convicted of a DUI.  The only way you’ll play is if the “investigation is pending”.

Carlos Dunlap Arrested for DUI

Carlos Dunlap Arrested for DUI

Florida Gators star defensive end Carlos Dunlap was arrested early this morning for a DUI. He was arrested at 3:25 AM off of SW 34th Street by Officer Robert Rogers.

According to police, Rogers was dispatched to the area to check out reports of a reckless driver in a Chrysler. Rogers said that when he found the car matching the description, it was stopped although the traffic light was green. Rogers said he watched the light cycle through several times but the car remained stopped.

“The front windows of the defendant’s (Dunlap’s) vehicle were cracked slightly and officers on the scene were unable to wake the defendant,” Rogers wrote in the arrest report. “Loud repetitive commands were given to the defendant who would only open his eyes momentarily and nod back off.”

Rogers said he reached in through the slightly opened window to unlock the car and noticed that it was still in gear. After shifting the car into park and turning off the ignition, Rogers and other said they noticed that Dunlap’s breath smelled of alcohol, his eyes were watery and bloodshot, that he had trouble maintaining his balance and did poorly on field sobriety tests.

How drunk do you have to be to pass out at the wheel?  How stupid can you be!?  You have a game this weekend that determines if you continue on for your chance at a National Championship, why would you do something this silly?  The smartest thing he did was choose to not take the breath test.

While we have been rotating our defensive players, this definitely isn’t a player that has no impact on the field.  He was named the 2009 National Championship Game MVP so his absence will be noticed.

Breaking News:

Urban Meyer’s Official Response to Dunlap’s Arrest: “Carlos wasn’t as think as you drunk he was”… apparently Meyer was with Dunlap at this gathering. (This is only a joke… obviously)

Game 1 Done

This year we had the longest off season of college football in years.  It was clear as there were thousands downtown in Gainesville, FL several hours before the game was underway.  I was fortunate enough to get down there around noon and set up shop for the tailgate before most.  Within a few skip and hops from entering Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field, gameday was back!

Football was in the air and it was only a matter of time.  To start the tailgating, we had some pre made sandwhiches to hold us over while the burgers and hot dogs were on the grill.  I hit University Ave around 5:00 to promote the Ultimate He15man shirts available here.  They were a huge hit and I barely had enough time to get one out of the bag before the next Gator fan was on there way.

Before long, it was game time!  Want to thank Linda for offering up her two extra tickets that were given to some fans of the site.  Our first couple that we were going to give them to fell through but we were able to get 2 other fans who hadn’t seen a Gator game in a while and hope they enjoyed the game as much as we did!

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to watch the game from a box and it was a very exciting way to watch the game for sure.

Couple Notes:

  • Andre Debose wasn’t seen on the field so it will be interesting to see what happens in the next few weeks.  It was said if he wasn’t 100% he wouldn’t play to prevent furthering the injury.  Hopefully we get to see him in action soon.
  • Carlos Dunlap seemed to be playing but wasn’t in the majority of defensive plays for the most part.  Will have to find out the reasoning behind this.
  • Brandon James has been reading too many news articles and has bought in to the hype about himself.  He did return a kick but the first few punts it looked like he was trying too hard.
  • Riley Cooper is amazingly quick.  He caught up to Brandon James on the kick off from about 10 yards back to be there for a block.
  • Chris Rainey might have a shot on defense.  Rainey laid out a defender with a block while Hernandez was going for a TD.
  • Tim Tebow and Aaron Hernandez have a special bond.
  • Tim Tebow will have SEC rushing TD record before yeard end.
  • Jeff Demps is ridiculously fast.

It’s hard to really know for sure how this Gator team will play when we face the SEC due to this not being a viable source for measurement of the teams talent.  Tim Tebow looked great and had two touchdown passes completely dropped (Deonte Thompson and Brandon James).  It’s hard to say if Tennessee will be a real test or not.  If we blow them out we still won’t know if it’s because Florida is that good or if Tennessee sucks that bad.

Final Score: 62 – 3

One thing’s for sure… I can’t wait until next Saturday already!

Carlos Dunlap Beast Mode

For those of you that don’t  know what beast mode is:

going crazy just pwning every one in site a complete level above the oppent

Sorry for the non-gramatical way of defining it but it basically means being ridiculous on the field.  Some have give the nickname to Marshawn Lynch of the Buffalo Bills but Carlos Dunlap is close to entering beast mode.

In high school, Dunlap didn’t have to try as hard to show this beast mode as the competition was weak and scarce.  Quickly after getting to UF, he realized that almost everyone was up to his potential.

“When I first got here, I probably had lazy tactics,” Dunlap said. “In high school, everything was so easy for me. I didn’t have to use all my energy to make plays in high school because I was the best player at my school.”

Dunlap quickly learned that wouldn’t get him by in college and that the “lazy tactics” used in high school would not fly with Meyer and the Florida coaches.  It wasn’t until last season that Florida fans began seeing the plays that Dunlap was brough here to make.  He began to look like he was back in high school again just manhandling offensive linemen and making the big plays everyone already knew he was capable of.

He blocked three punts (the most by a player in a season in school history), had 9.5 sacks and a team-leading 13.5 tackles for loss. He culminated his year by earning the most valuable defensive player award in the national championship game victory over Oklahoma. In the 24-14 victory, Dunlap blocked a field goal, had four tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and half a sack.

Gainesville Sun

“Last year, it was hard to get Dunlap to run from me to that door (10 feet away),” defensive coordinator Charlie Strong said. “What helped him was being the (defensive) MVP in the national championship game. He’s gotten so much publicity and he’s taken it upon himself to be a better football player.

“His whole thing is practice. He has to be a better practice player. When you look at Dunlap, I don’t know if there’s anyone like him. He’s 6-7, 285 pounds. He can run down people. He’s so fast and athletic. He has a tremendous upside. The thing he needs to do each day is come ready to go play.”

One thing is clear for this upcoming year.  I would not want to be the person with the ball on the opposing team with #8 running at you.  Because come September 5th, Carlos Dunlap will have entered into a permanent beast mode.
